It is important to note that suicide is not a normal response to stress. Suicidal thoughts or actions are a sign of extreme distress and should not be ignored. If these warning signs apply to you or someone you know, get help as soon as possible, particularly if the behavior is new or has increased recently.

Beacon of Light and the St. Andrew Hope Squad will provide QPR, Suicide Prevention Training to adults and students.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month. At this event, adults and students will receive QPR training (a nationally recognized suicide gatekeeper program: Question, Persuade, and Refer – the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to save a life from suicide). Carrie Cravens, LCSW and Clinical Program Manager of Beacon of Light will train parents on warning signs of suicide and how to take action. At the same time, trained St. Andrew high school students and adults from the St. Andrew Hope Squad will speak to middle and high school students separately. This will also include how to identify warning signs in themselves and others, when to reach out and how to seek help.
